Salman Khan won’t have to make much of an effort to take his film Veer, an Eros International Media Ltd presentation and Vijay Galani Moviez production, to international audiences. “The grandeur, budget, sets, its action, writing, the acting, cinematography, and score put it on par with Hollywood films like Gladiator, Troy and Braveheart,” said a trade analyst. Coincidentally, Mel Gibson wrote Braveheart while Salman penned Veer himself !

“Salman is the ideal star to play a warrior; his gravelly voice and impressive physique combine to give him a huge presence. He is larger than life and adds charisma to a vengeance-driven heroic character,” said Galani. Director Anil Sharma without the use of computer effects has given Veer the feel of a classic epic project. “It was shot extensively in Rajasthan where action sequences involving thousands of fighters, horses, hundreds of elephants and camels, including huge sequences such as a train robbery and a full-fledged war were shot. Shootings also took place across the United Kingdom using chariots, vintage costumes, horse carts and items peculiar to the late 19th century. In fact, it’s the first Bollywood film that has been shot in Buckingham Palace,” said a source from the film unit.

Salman took almost 20 years to write this saga of a freedom fighter, a Pindari soldier who fought for social justice and independence. “Rarely does an entertainment house get the opportunity to work with superstars to produce a movie of the grandeur and scale of Veer; which is the magic of storytelling on a large canvas, a story written by the lead star himself. At Eros, we believe this could well kickstart a trend in Indian cinema,” says Managing Director and Group CEO – India, Eros International Media Ltd, A P Parigi, about the film that’s “waiting to break records on January 22”.

Shahid Kapoor is controversy's favourite child. The latest is, the actor forced his Chance Pe Dance director Ken Ghosh to delete the passionate smooch from the film. Reportedly, Shahid felt that it wouldn't be good for his image when he saw the final cut of the film.
"I've stopped reacting to gossip," Shahid tells me. So what's the truth? "The truth is, there's no smooch in the film. It was never conceptualised, hence it was not filmed. It just doesn't exist. As simple as that," Shahid clarifies.
Meanwhile, Shahid has decided against signing any film for the time being. "I am channelizing all my energies on my father's [Pankaj Kapoor] directorial debut. We plan to begin shooting in March. That's the only film I have on hand right now," he says.
Reportedly, the film is inspired from the Tom Cruise starrer Top Gun. "Well, the only similarity is that I play a naval officer in the film. In the past, Rajesh Khanna and Shah Rukh Khan too had played naval officers, but that doesn't mean they were inspired by Top Gun. Dad's making a love story, which makes it entirely different from that film," Shahid states.

Trade circles say that Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar was reportedly signed for as high a fee as Rs 71 crore for a film, has had a change of mind.

Reliable market sources say that the entire completion cost of Akshay’s next two films –‘Khatta Meetha’ directed by Priyadarshan and ‘Tees Maar Khan’ directed by Farah Khan will reportedly not exceed Rs 35 crore.

According to one trade source the cost of making ‘Khatta Meetha’ and ‘Tees Maar Khan’ won’t include the actor’s fee.

The same source adds that when Akshay realised that his films ‘Chandni Chowk to China’, ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ and ‘Tasveer’ lost money because of his individual fee as an actor, he decided to make a market correction.

Having studied the current Bollywood trade scene, the actor has decided not to charge a single penny for his films.

However, Akki’s banner ‘Hari Om Productions’ is a co-producer of the films ‘Khatta Meetha’ and ‘Tees Maar Khan’.

The actor explains the logic behind this drastic move of not charging his market fee. He said that for both the films his fees will be Rs.0. If both films are hits, then the production house will stand to benefit by getting a part of the profits. If the film is average, the profit margin will automatically be reduced. And if the film flops, no one will lose money because the budget has been controlled. By not charging his personal remuneration as an actor, he has made sure that these films will at least romp home with no losses.

Trade sources say that the Akshay is being closely watched by all actors who have home productions.

Leading Kannada film actor Dr Vishnuvardhan passed away at Mysore in the wee hours of Wednesday following a cardiac arrest.

The 59-year-old actor, popularly known as Sahasasimha, had complained of chest pain on Tuesday night. However, he passed away at around 2.30 am while being taken to Vikram Hospital in Mysore, where he was being treated for a leg problem.
