TEMPE, Ariz. -- With a 14-13 victory against Minnesota in the Insight Bowl on Thursday night, Iowa State locked up its first winning season since 2005.
Minnesota (6-7) made an unwanted bit of history by becoming the first three-time Insight Bowl loser.
"We came here to win the football game and we didn't get it done," Minnesota coach Tim Brewster said. "It's a great group of kids...and their hearts are broke and they're bleeding."
Friday's slate of bowl games feature three Big Ten schools: Northwestern vs. Auburn in the Outback Bowl; Penn State vs. LSU in the Capital One Bowl; and Ohio State vs. Oregon in the Rose Bowl.
Michigan State will face Texas Tech on Saturday in the Alamo Bowl while Iowa faces off against Georgia Tech on Tuesday in the Orange Bowl.
Wisconsin beat Miami in the 20-14 in the Champs Sports Bowl earlier.
